I thought I’d assemble a suite of the four elements from Sri Lanka (surprise, surprise!), beginning with my favourite, fire – a fire basket from the perahera:
Being an old farmer’s girl, and a gardener, I can think of nothing more beautiful – if literal – for earth than a patch of the red earth of the north:
Almost liquid, this air, wild and frenzied as the storm hits, when the velocity of the wind just outstrips the oncoming rain, and the temperature plummets
and lastly – the balm, the healer – the touch of magic: water
The Four Elements, Ailsa’s Travel Theme this week.

You have captured the elements perfectly. The red earth seems so much richer than the usual kind (if there is a usual kind). The water looks like perfect steps to somewhere special.
sigh, these are perfect … each one somehow full of movement … like you at present!
Stunning shots and perfect for the challenge! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Beautiful pictures from Sri Lanka, Meredith. I love the waterfall and the stormy wind. 🙂
Superbly illustrates “Nature that framed us of four elements, warring within our breasts for regiment, doth teach us all to have aspiring minds.” by Niccolo Machiavelli
Wonderful illustrations of the elements!
perfect entry…
Wonderful planet colours!
I loved all of these but what’s the story behind the fire baskets?
Great job honoring the elements!
What I find most fascinating about these challenges is the wide variety in replies. yours here is probably the most inventive I’ve seen for this challenge, to say nothing of just how special the photos are. This was a beautiful post.
I really like the water image… but I absolutely agree with the title of the post… the liquid air with its abstract-art feel most definitely steals the show!
beautiful
Fabulous shots all! It is hard to capture wind, but your shot of ‘frenzied liquid air’ nails it!

Thank you Naomi – I particularly love the fire shot – I always try to capture those moving flames!

Perfect photos for the challenge, Meredith. 🙂 Love that waterfall.
I love the expression of the elements, especially fire! All four are beautifully captured, here.
